Nadja Heym, MSc
Nadja is the research coordinator of the IMAGEN project at the Brain and Body Centre in the University of Nottingham. She manages the daily running of the project.
She invites teenagers and their parents to take part in the study, and so might be seen in your local school presenting information on the brain and IMAGEN. She is happy to give information and to answer any questions about the IMAGEN study.
Nadja is very familiar with using the computer tasks and she conducts some of the interviews with both parents and teenagers at the centre.
Alex Gaskill, BSc
Alex is a research assistant at the Brain and Body Centre. She is helping to introduce the IMAGEN project to teenagers at the schools and meets with the adolescents when they attend our centre to carry out a number of psychological tasks. She is happy to give information and answer any questions about IMAGEN.
Klara Mareckova
Klara is an MSc student at the University of Nottingham. She also meets the adolescents during their visit and carries out some of the neuropsychological tasks. She also often helps with neuroimaging.
Irum Khan
Irum is a PhD student at the Brain and Body Centre. She will also be there during the lab visit - looking after you during the MRI scans. Irum is happy to answer any questions you have about the scanning.
Carolyn Costigan, MSc
Carolyn is the research radiographer at the Brain and Body Centre at the University of Nottingham. She also takes the blood samples for the IMAGEN study. Carolyn has worked in MRI scanning since 1994 and is happy to answer any questions about the scanning or the equipment used in the IMAGEN project.
Kay Head and Ali Al-Radaideh
Both – Kay and Ali work at the MR Centre and are responsible for the scanning. They will introduce you to the scanner room and explain all the little details and technical bits you might be interested in. They also make sure that you feel comfortable during the time at their centre.
Adam Fairbairn
Adam is a Research Assistant within the Brain and Body Centre. He is helping to introduce the IMAGEN project to teenagers at the schools and manages most of the data that is collected during adolescent visits to our centre.
The University of Nottingham:
The University of Nottingham opened in the city centre in 1881, after an anonymous donation of £10,000 was made to the city for this purpose.
Even in its early days on this site, the College attracted high profile visiting lecturers including Professor Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi and HG Wells.
The University has even seen former students go on to fame, such as the infamous writer and poet DH Lawrence.
The University is particularly famous for the award of the Nobel Prize for Medicine to Sir Peter Mansfield for his work in the application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The Brain & Body Centre
Our Centre provides a setting for studies of environmental and genetic factors that are shaping structure and function of the human brain and body.
We are interested both in the dynamics of normal development from pregnancy, through childhood and adolescence to adulthood, as well as in the long-term consequences of various environmental events that occur before birth but "program" the brain and body for the rest of life.
We hope that this work will lead to new discoveries relevant for disorders of the brain.
We are based on the main campus of the Nottingham University, not far from the Queen Medical Centre (QMC).
